Rank tracking can give its users an overview of how they are doing when it comes to full text search engines, such as Google and queries connected to their business. Ranks in queries can be tracked with the Marketing Miner tool in Fulltext, Image and Video search.
How to: set Rank tracking for ProjectStep 1
Creating a project
If a user wants to track ranks on a regular basis, at first it is necessary to create a project for the web that needs to be tracked. A user does so by getting to the Projects section on the main page (after signing in). In this section, he then clicks on Create a project.Step 1
Rank tracking section
On every project dashboard there is always a section of Rank tracking in which there are available search engines related to a country for which a user decides to track rankings. By clicking on that search engine, a user gets to the section with data related to the particular country.
How can such tracking look like, can be found here:
In this section, the data about the rank of their project in search engines is updated daily for the user. A user can display a history of progresses, download data in bulk for failed or rising queries or watch the whole progress of a project.
How to: One-time rank tracking in search enginesStep 1
Import phrases that a user wants to collect data on
To obtain an overview of ranks in search engines, it is necessary to have queries as input. So a user uses the section Keyword Miners, where they import domain dataset using one of the of the methods of import.
It is always useful to give the report a name by clicking on Dataset name that makes it easy to be identified. If a user wants to save input dataset to use it anytime for different purposes, they can check the tab Save Dataset.
There is also an option for the user to select the county for which they want to collect data by clicking on the flag next to the button Select Miners.
Selection of the miner and the type of search
In the miner selection, a user selects SERP Position miner that collects data on the domain position in search. A user then imports the name of the domain which he wants to track and chooses the type of search (Full-text, Images, and Video).
The user then has to click on Get Data. The tool starts processing the inputs with the help of selected miner and after it's finished, it emails user the final processed data.
|Keyword / URL||The query for which a domain was searched in search engines|
|Domain||Domain of which a rank was searched in search results|
|[Search engine]||Domain rank in search engine Google for a given phrase|
|Number of results||Number of Google search results (it can help to estimate the competitiveness of an individual query)|
|[Search engine] Landing Page||Landing page found in Google search results (if the domain is found)|
An output can then be analyzed by an individual with a use of some handy tools that can work with XSLX outputs. We recommend these step-by-step instructions of analysis below:

Tracking impacts of SEO activities
As soon as an SEO pro processes anything on the web, he should be able track the impacts of such processes. After making changes, it takes search engines a while to go through the changed content and re-index it.
Best thing to do in such a case is to mark down the watched queries in the Rank tracking section and then observe their daily progress. If the changes made caused a boost in the ranks of related queries of given landing page, then the changes were positive and those changes needs to be stuck with and continue with them (or should be applied to a different part of the content as well for better results). If there was a slump in the progress, then the changes should be taken down and it's better to wait for some time to get a verification that such changes on the web were really the cause of such decrease and it wasn't something else (i.e. search engine algorithm update, etc.).
Instead of observing individual queries, it is beneficial to analyze the overall performance of intro page. Some changes have a positive impact on a few queries but the overall performance of the intro page would decrease.
How to improve rankings in search engines
There are many ways of improving ranks in search engines. We don't recommend focusing and tracking impacts only on individual queries but instead on topics and intro pages.
Following are the methods that can help with higher traffic from search engines long-term:
- Content update - Search engines like to provide "fresh" content for a user that does not have problems with the progress of stories (something that is accurate today but does not have to be accurate tomorrow). Occasional update of the content can help the website to be more attractive for search engines.
- Content expansion - It is just same as an update, an expansion of content with some related topics can be a positive step.
- Obtaining links - Link building is one of the deciding factors when it comes to competition. Getting quality links can be a backbone of a long-term success.
